Just a message of encouragement to the Gymnites on our first big exercise Weekend. I know it can be a tad painful getting back into the swing of things at first so I've ordered a Professional Oxygen giver to be on hand at all times
oxygen

Also a special shout-out goes to Leyosura for her giving up of alcohol. Here Illya demostrates the correct use for a wine bottle

And to theWretching for her very brave commitment at giving up cigarettes.*group applause* and we are all very proud of you.

Onwards to Victory Gymnites. Determined mindset of battle now

BTW: For the cousins that haven't signed up yet, I have checked and the NHS says the first basic step for anymore between 19 - 65, no matter how unfit, is three 45 minute brisk walks a week.

This link is useful. It is the NHS 5k plan. Whereby it claims that "just about anyone will go from couch to 5 kilometers in around 9 weeks" It has a podcast you can download for free [I'm assuming this is globally available] where a "personal trainer" will talk you through the session and tell you went to start and stop.

https://itunes.apple.com/podcast/nhs-couch-to-5k/id394384987?mt=2
allegedly based on the reviews it seems to work, particularly for those in the 50s age range.

helpfully, I distinctly remember the NHS saying that all oxygen dispensers must be shirtless.

Aw, heck been doing that for years! And swimming. And biking. My hips must not be paying attention...

the three 45 minute walk is week 1, it builds from there. The NHS says anyone under 65, with no underlying health issue should be able to run 5 kilometers [3 miles] without stopping, which seems a tad ambitious to me for the over 60s but apparently this should be the basic level of achievement for all of us. They're promising "just about anyone can go from Couch to 5 kilometers in Nine weeks."

Honestly, there is nothing on God's green earth that would get me to run! I bike 10-20 miles several times a week, swim laps, and walk several holes on the golf course every day. It's enough.

in that case I dare you to go for a 20 minute jog, not in the interests of health as I'm sure the biking/swimming is fine, but in the interests of the Gymnite Principle of trying something different.

No thanks. I'm happy with my regimen, whereas my 60 year old knees will definitely NOT be happy if I go jogging on them. Sorry, mate.

It's warming up a bit tomorrow, so that's the start date. I found my earflap hat and I'm ready :) Peter went out cross country skiing today, after a couple of years of not doing it (he mostly bikes now), and wrenched his ankle. Not a good example!!

Good job Leyosura and Wretching on your resolutions! I'll be cheering you on.

yes I was surveying the obstacles to the East-Coast gymnites on the telly, so you all get special stars for working around the local problems on the ground. I've never been skiing and if we had enough snow I would totally try cross country skiing. I'm so jealous. Good luck for tomorrow, you will of course do brilliantly I know you will.

It's so cold the cats refuse to go out. One of them made a run for the front door in the hope that a different door meant different weather conditions, but the experiment didn't last long :)

poor little mite, faced with conditions that he considered untenable, MeanyCat used to look at me with the "make it stop" face [in fairness I suppose we humans can control things like light] I repeatedly had to break it to him that there was nothing I could do about it.

I tried to find one of your valet Stirlitz doing something cheery or athletic but it wasn't really working and I ended up on a blog called "yaygaynazis" which did admittedly feature a lot of very athletic and toned men.

Yes, the fygaynazis tumblr seems to crop up disconcertingly often in those searches. I've got a cheery early Stirlitz pic for you though (just don't let toggie see it):

gaynazis with sadomasochistic accordion tendencies. I am intrigued by this show. If you succeed well at your Gymnite activities I may agree to watch this and then therefore never shut up about it to you.

I just slip-slided the 100 ft. to my mailbox and then came back. That is all the outdoor effort you are getting out of me for a while. The snow is already packing down into ice and freezing rain is predicted for tonight and tomorrow.

However, I am trying to develop a regular (daily) meditation practice if the Gymnites want to help with that.

Jan. 4th, 2014 09:38 pm (UTC)
we DO want to help with that. Mediation is an excellent idea. And perhaps a little walking in a winter wonderland?

Okay, I did meditate today and even found a free meditation timer (just a more gentle noise than setting and alarm).

I enjoy walking when I'm not slipping and sliding. The next few days, no; it would be so embarrassing for the neighbors to complain about a new speed bump and then learn that it is just me lying there with broken bones.

you are our Meditation Queen, i wonder if we should give the meditators cute Blonde One piccies as a reward as it will get them all excited again after a calming meditating session. Seems like it might be counter-intuitive to the cause, shall have to think of a calmer reward.

I think shirtless pics of the Blond One would be an excellent test of how well meditation is lowering blood pressure.

yes we shall have to look into and expand on this meditation part, especially with coping with Work issues, cause I think stress and that is the major cause of the binge/comfort eating.

I did the full Lady Gaga workout on the cross-trainer for the first time in oh-god-it-really-must-be-AGES! and am now recovering on the comfy sofa with a big glass of ice water and feeling virtuous (if mildly queasy) whilst waiting for my valet to change strips.

you know my favourite thing about your valet, when he's shirtless his hair is very immaculately tidy.

just an observation. I glad youre back with the Gagaing.

SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! Oh yes, he's always beautifully turned out. And see, see, see! In your piccie he's wearing his Away Strip *and* his Cream-Bun-Knocking gloves. (He takes his Gymnite valeting very seriously.)

You have to include that picture of Hiddles I. He takes my breath away you know?
Any way, I'm doing cardio every evening since December. I got a super cute Loki t-shirt and my goal is to wear it along with the old jeans that I haven't touch since a year ago. If I can stay away from cookies and chocolate, I might be ready in a month or so...
That 5k program looks great. I have 6 dogs to walk (I do it in pairs) I can use the program with the friskier ones. The weather is warm, getting warmer, so outdoor activities sound good.
I'll keep you post about how it progresses.

you know I'm imagining your indoor cardio exactly like this right..

and with the cookies and chocolate I have two words to say to you my friend and they are these: delayed gratification. You know what I'm talking about.

also remember that your Loki shirt is going to have to go with this Thor shirt...and the man is quite thin and looks pleasingly lithe in that shirt.

Oh look Hiddles is again demonstrating an Approved Gymnite Warm-Up exercise move.

you may be in trouble here, first cause I have a very large collection of Hiddles gifs at my disposal, and second cause Hiddles seems very keen to assist in Gymnite demonstrations, and not just the dancing ones, here he demonstrates the correct breath technique and look of shock and terror that should accompany any strenuous-post exercise breathe-down
