I am writing a text in which Illya and other Russians are singing songs. These songs were popular among teenagers and were disapproved by officials. Some silly but rather romantic staff about seamen, girls from port bars, fights and deaths from bullet or knife. "In the port of Capetown", "The girl from Nagasaki", this sort of staff.
My question is: did anything similar to that exist in the US? Some teenage subculture, songs which everybody knows but not those which you will normally listen to on the radio or see at the top of hit-parade? If yes, please help me with links
