More traditionally as 'World Heritage Day', today is to celebrate the diversity of cultural heritage. It is also to raise awareness for the protection of our ancient monuments and historical sites.
In my little part of North East England, you can't move for historical culture. We an enormous amount of Roman, Viking, and Norman history around us. Our area was also exceptionally important in the introduction of Christianity to England. Durham Cathedral, which is 6 miles from my town, houses the graves of 2 saints; St. Cuthbert and St. Bede.
I can't deny that I am spoiled rotten for heritage.
