Men don’t make passes at girls who wear glasses. Dorothy Parker is credited with that line. But what about guys who wear glasses – and not just any glasses, but butt ugly black rimmed, green-tinted glasses. In the military, they are referred to as birth control glasses. Obviously Illya doesn’t have that worry. So why wear them?

Is it as one writer suggests, Illya’s way to screen potential bed partners? He seems to pull them out at the oddest time and not usually in the field. Does he really need to wear glasses? There are other options, why would he pick such utilitarian frames? A leftover from his Soviet days
