TITLE: “IN SICKNESS AND IN HEALTH…..”
WORD COUNT: 305
SUMMARY: Illya applies the sense of touch
DISCLOSURE: They always belong to each other
A/N: This is my follow-up to “A SCENT OF A MAN” by Ashley-Pitt
Illya Kuryakin enters the private room, in UNCLE’s Medical Section, and stops just inside the closed door.
He takes several deep breathes to compose himself…to be strong.
The medical staff glances at him with a mixture of sympathy and understanding.
One of the nurses hands him a chart. He seeks out the most important parts: ‘Close call but blindness seems to be temporary, sight should return soon’.
He sighs. Those words ‘seems’ and ‘soon’ bother him. It reminds him that in their line of work nothing is guaranteed. It also reminds him that three years ago, on that glorious night they became one, he would stand by Napoleon Solo through thick and thin, for better or worse, in sickness and in health, until death parted them.
Handing the chart back to the nurse, he cautiously approached Solo’s bed. He had learned, from training and experience, never to sneak upon an agent – be he/she friend or foe.
Once by the bed, he stops and gazes down at this man he loves to the depths of his soul. He makes no move to touch him. He doesn’t need to.
It is not a question. Napoleon knows his scent. He sits on the side of the bed, takes his lover’s hands in his own, and leans over to place a kiss on the soft lips. “Yes, Napoleon, I am here”, he whispers.
Napoleon smiles. “Good. Now we can have dinner.”
Illya chuckles, shakes his head, and nods to the duty nurse who had already arrived with their dinner.
