Today is . . .

. . . Rat catcher's Day!

Today is a celebration of the Pied Piper of Hamelin. However, I find it a bit strange that such a creepy tale would be celebrated. Then again, many of the old European folk tales have sinister basis. Many were cleaned up, and sanitised, by the brothers Grimm, but if you look up the original tales you'll find a dark and twisted world.

The reason I chose this odd day because of the rather tenuous link I have to the story. Back in the end of the 19th century, I had a Great-Great-Uncle who was the mayor of Hamelin :-D
