In the beginning of its life, HBO didn't have a whole lot of movies to show. So, what they did have they showed.....over and over and over and over. A few years after this, HBO taught me to memorize the dialogue from Star Trek The Motion Picture, AKA, Purple, Lots O'Purple.
Anyway, one late night in 1981 after a one too many glasses of cheap lambrusco, I stumbled upon this movie and fell head over heels for it. Not literally...not that much wine.
I'd not heard of The Magnificent Seven or Seven Samurai at that point in my life. All I knew was that it was a charming little movie with a lot of actors I recognized.
Robert stole the show for me, even more than George Peppard. Didn't he have the most uncanny way of MAKING you pay attention to him in a scene? If you've not seen it, it's worth your time.
