Do you think fandom is the same as it was when we were kids (for some this is a shorter time than others)?

Do you think fans are as loyal or are fans today more interested in the shiny and new stuff, glomming onto it, then tossing it aside a few months later for the next 'big thing'?

Why do you think (if indeed you do) that has happened?
