It’s that time of year

Flu shot season.

You can be immunized beginning now through the end of the year. October is generally the best time to get it because it allows time for it to become effective within your body before “flu season” hits.

We know the vaccine is never perfect because viruses mutate. All we can hope if that the best combination of flu strains are in the vaccine this year. Sort of Pin The Tail On The Virus.

For those of us who are first cousins, congratulations, we now have diminished immune systems as a normal part of aging. Sparky says: get the shot.

In recent years, there has been a dramatic increase in flu-related deaths in children & in 20-something’s. Sparky says: get the shot, talk to your kid’s pediatrician about the shot.

For anyone with diabetes, chronic heart or lung disease, you are at high risk of developing respiratory complications from the flu. Ask your primary care physician about it. Sparky says: get the shot.

In the US, the CDC (Center for Disease Control) has approved the nasal flu vaccine for certain age groups. If this sounds interesting to you, do your due diligence and if you choose, have somebody stick it up your nose. 🙂

In the US, there is a stronger flu vaccine available this year, targeted to the 60 plus age group and to those with chronic illnesses. It possibly costs more, but I’m going to try to get it.

Flu kills. Period. It causes deaths from pneumonia and from sepsis (infection in the blood that overwhelms all your body systems). Flu kills. Old people, babies, young people, middle age people, everyday healthy people.

Flu kills.

Sparky says: please, get the shot.
