Question for writers (just curious)....

I’m fascinated by the diversity of ideas and scenarios that writers come up with for their stories and wondered where some writers get their ideas from. For instance, for me Kissing Bandit was inspired by the 1948 movie of the same name; Cupids’s Bow by a character on Xena Warrior Princess and inspiration for Drowning after reading an account of a near death experience.

So, my question is this - for you, what plants that seed of an idea for a story? Where does it initially come from, how does it inspire you? Does it pop fully formed into your mind or do you have to nurture it?
